Associate of Science
This program is designed to meet the need for skilled workers in the biotechnology industry. It provides training for varying levels of technical skills (tissue culture, sterile technique, DNA/protein protocols) for those interested in laboratory employment, whether they are in the biotechnology industry, medical or academic research institution. Career paths include laboratory assistant/associate, manufacturing technician and quality control technician.
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will:
- Prepare lab reagents and conduct experiments with minimum sources of error using basic instruments and math skills.
- Explain the principles and practices of biotechnology.
- Work effectively in cooperative teams in a lab setting to design and complete experiments.
- Report the analysis of laboratory findings using both oral and written communication skills.
- Evaluate societal issues and implications of biotechnology.
- Prepare job search materials, including a lab notebook and resume.

Articulation agreements are available for students to complete the Associate Degree and transfer to Point Park University . It is important that students consult with a counselor early in their program to develop a course plan most appropriate for the school to which they intend to transfer.
