This University Parallel Program provides the first and second year foundations for successful transfer towards a baccalaureate degree at a four-year college or university. Students should select specialized courses that align with their intended program of study at their identified transfer institution. Students are encouraged to meet with a transfer counselor to effectively design a plan for successful transfer into a program/discipline at a four-year institution.

Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will:

  1. Demonstrate written and oral communication skills necessary for transition to a four-year institution.
  2. Successfully complete academic tasks using digital technology, applications and collaboration tools relevant to their program or discipline.
  3. Describe the scope of their chosen major field and its core theories and practices using appropriate terminology.
  4. Analyze data using sound mathematical/scientific concepts.
  5. Explain how diverse perspectives affect interpretations of issues in politics, society and human relationships.
  6. Acquire and evaluate information through technological and traditional means as relevant to their chosen major field of concentration.

Major Field Electives must align with transfer plan.

1 Computer Information Technology electives must be numbered 100 or higher and selected in consultation with a transfer counselor and/or academic advisor.

2 Humanities electives must be numbered 100 or higher and from the following disciplines: Art History and Studio Art (ART), American Sign Language and Culture (ASL), Dance (DAN), English Writing and Literature (ENG beyond the level of 102), Foreign Culture and Language (FCL), Journalism (JRN), Music Theory and Practice (MUS), Philosophy (PHL), Speech (SPH), Theatre (THE).

3 Mathematics electives must be numbered 100 or higher except MAT 191 , MAT 193  and MAT 195 . Students should consult with a transfer counselor and their preferred baccalaureate institution when choosing a course to fulfill this elective.

4 Social Science electives must be numbered 100 or higher and from the following disciplines: Anthropology (ANT), Criminal Justice and Criminology (CJC), Early Education and Child Development (ECD), Economics (ECO), Ethnic and Diversity Studies (ETH), Geography (GEO), History (HIS), Homeland Security (HLS), Paralegal (PAL), Political Science (POL), Psychology (PSY), Sociology (SOC), Social Work (SOW).

5 Major field electives must align with transfer plan and should be selected in consultation with a transfer counselor and/or academic advisor.

6 Speech electives must be numbered 100 or higher. SPH 101  is recommended. Students should consult with a transfer counselor and their preferred baccalaureate institution when choosing a course to fulfill this elective.

7 Science electives with a lab must be numbered 100 or higher and from the following disciplines: Biology (BIO), Chemistry (CHM), Geology (GGY), Physical Science (PHS), Physics (PHY).
