Dietetic Technician Mission-Goals-Program Outcomes
The mission of the Dietetics program is to provide students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to function as competent entry-level Dietetic Technicians.
To support the mission of the program the following Program Goals have been developed:
- Prepare graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to pass the registration exam and become competent entry-level dietetic technicians.
- Prepare graduates to secure employment in dietetics or related field.
Achievement of these goals is monitored through a multi-faceted, on-going process that includes the following stakeholders: administration, faculty, preceptors, students, graduates, employers and Advisory Committee.
An important aspect of the program is the practical experience. Students are placed in long-term care facilities, acute care hospitals and community settings. After completing designated coursework in preparation for the practical experience, students can observe and practice current principles of dietetic practice.
Program Objectives
Students enrolled in the program will:
- Successfully meet the reqUirements for an Associate of Science Degree in dietetics within three years of acceptance into the program.
- Complete a minimum of 480 hours of supervised practical experience that is coordinated with classroom learning.
- Be prepared to take and pass the registration examination for the Dietetic Technician within the first year after graduation.
- Participate in professional activities of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (previously ADA) / Association of Nutrition and Foodservice Professionals (previously DMA) on the local, state and national levels.
Outcome Data
- The five-year summary from CDR of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics reported that CCAC’s Dietetic Program currently has a 93% pass rate for first-time test-takers of the DT registration examination, which meets ACEND requirements with commendation.
- Employment of graduates includes both traditional and non-traditional workplaces that provide nutrition, foodservice and wellness.
- Responses from employers indicate satisfaction with our graduates and contact the program directly to inquire about the availability of graduates to meet their staffing needs.
- Further details of outcome data measuring achievement of program objectives are available to ACEND or the public at any time upon request, from CCAC Institutional Research, or from the Program Director.
Program Completion Requirements
- Complete all course requirements in the Dietetic Technician curriculum.
- Maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 or better.
- Maintain a least a C grade in all program courses.
- Students who receive more than one (1) D or F grade in a DIT course will be dismissed from the Dietetics Program.
- Complete and submit a personal portfolio
