BIO 155 - Biology Research Lab Credits: 2 4 Lab Hours
Prerequisites: BIO 151
Description (Formerly BTC-101) This course introduces students to the basic concepts and laboratory skills used in a biological reasearch setting. Laboratory skills emphasized include micropipetting, dilutions, preparing physiological solutions and spectroscopy. Students perform a variety of laboratory protocols including protein isolation and quantification, DNA isolation and purification, basic staining techniques and aseptic cell culture. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Prepare common physiological solutions for laboratory use.
- Utilize precise measuring, sterile technique and light microscopy.
- Maintain a laboratory notebook and digital photo atlas.
- Demonstrate basic laboratory techniques following established protocols.
- Develop skills to maintain cells in culture.
- Assemble analyzed experimental data.
