HPE 129 - Physical Conditioning and Weight Training 2 Credits: 2 3 Activity Hours
Prerequisites: HPE 128
Description This course enables experienced physical conditioning students to continue their exercise program under the supervision and guidance of a qualified instructor. Students evaluate their own health status and participate in a physical conditioning program designed to meet their personal goals and interests. Areas of concentration are cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, body composition, muscular strength and muscular endurance. Students with current high fitness levels may experiment with advanced training techniques to enhance their physical conditioning program. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Implement advanced exercise physiology concepts into physical activity.
- Compare and contrast variations in programs designed to develop health-related/sport-related components of fitness.
- Design a physical activity program to enhance cardiovascular endurance that incorporates concepts of exercise physiology.
- Incorporate advanced knowledge of training principles to improve muscular strength, endurance and flexibility.
- Apply the principles of body composition and weight management into an individual program.
- Design a personalized physical activity program using personal health information and physical fitness test results while also evaluating the program’s effectiveness.
- Design a personalized fitness plan that employs safe activities while considering personal health limitations.
- Evaluate a personalized advanced training plan by designing, adhering to and measuring performance over time to sustain a high level of physical fitness through diverse training methods.
