RES 113 - Respiratory Therapy 1 Credits: 4 3 Lecture Hours 3 Lab Hours
Prerequisites: MAT 108 , CHM 109 or CHM 110 and CHM 111 , BIO 115 Co-requisites: RES 111 , PHY 123
Description In this course, students explore the relationship between respiratory equipment and the pathological condition of patients. Students learn to identify the reasons for intubation and learn how to perform endotracheal intubation and extubation. Additionally, students learn techniques of airway management and how to properly assess patients. This course requires a per credit health career fee; check the tuition and fee schedule for the current rate. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Describe the indicators for patient intubation.
- Explain the hazards of suctioning.
- Show proper technique for suctioning a patient.
- Demonstrate how to perform an endotracheal intubation.
- Demonstrate how to perform an endotracheal extubation.
