SPA 102 - Elementary Spanish 2 Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours
Prerequisites: Completion of SPA 101 with a grade of C or better
Description In this course, students expand on the Spanish language skills learned in Elementary Spanish 1 as they continue improving their communicative abilities. Students deepen their listening, speaking, reading and writing proficiency through class activities and assignments. Additionally, students further their exploration of the diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. The goal is for students to advance their vocabulary, grasp of grammar concepts and cultural understanding. It is recommended that within one academic year of completing this course, students enroll in the next level Spanish course (SPA 201) to continue practicing and enhancing their Spanish language skills. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Integrate linguistic and cultural understanding of the Spanish language to effectively apply Spanish vocabulary, grammar, and cultural awareness in diverse situations.
- Translate level-appropriate material.
- Write more detailed sentences and paragraphs in Spanish.
- Communicate at a basic or better level in Spanish.
- Use a high-novice to low-intermediate level vocabulary in and out of the classroom.
- Identify the difference between Spanish and English grammar.
- Compare and contrast cultural differences among Spanish speaking countries.
