ECT 251 - Adv Electrical Construction Tech 2 Credits: 12 16 Skills Lab Hours
Prerequisites: ECT 201
Description This course integrates advanced electrical systems and emerging technologies. Fourth-year apprentices at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #5 complete hands-on projects aligned with the Electrical Training Alliance fourth-session curriculum. Emphasis is placed on system installation, testing and troubleshooting involving photovoltaic solar systems, fire alarm systems, structured cabling, programmable logic controllers, instrumentation and building automation. Activities require integration of code requirements, testing procedures, programming procedures and documentation practices. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Perform National Electrical Code calculations for advanced electrical installations.
- Install photovoltaic system components and associated electrical equipment.
- Install fire alarm and power-limited systems.
- Terminate structured cabling systems including copper and fiber pathways.
- Program basic programmable logic controller applications.
- Test integrated electrical and control systems using appropriate instruments and software.
