CHM 201 - Organic Chemistry 1 Credits: 4 3 Lecture Hours 4 Lab Hours Prerequisites: CHM 152 or permission of instructor The course covers the chemistry of the organic compounds of carbon. This includes the bonding, structure (including stereochemistry), nomenclature, physical properties, reactions and reaction mechanisms. The alkane, alkene, alkyne, alkyl, halide, alcohol, ethers and epoxides functional groups are studied in detail. Laboratory is an introduction to basic organic lab operations, such as separation, extraction and determination of physical properties.
