MET 181 - Mechanical Systems Credits: 3 2 Lecture Hours 2 Lab Hours
Description This course will cover the science of linear and radial drive components, couplings, belts, gears, pulleys, bearings and sprockets. Installation, safety, maintenance, lubrication, alignments, repair and replacement techniques are covered. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Describe five methods of rotary power transmission.
- Describe eight mechanical transmission safety rules.
- Perform a lock-out/tag-out.
- Assemble a shaft to a hub using a key.
- Measure shaft torque with a pony break.
- Align two shafts for proper operation.
- Calculate pulley ratios.
- Calculate shaft speed for gear, pulley and chain systems.
- Describe lubrication methods for mechanical systems
