PAL 135 - Employee Benefits Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours
Description This course introduces students to the blend of legal theory and practical legal skills that comprise employment law. The students will study the employment relationship from responding to advertisements for employment, interviewing, pre-employment testing, contracts of hire, employment compensation and benefits, employment evaluation through termination of employment. Issues of employment discrimination, equal pay, wage laws and the Family Medical Leave Act will be discussed. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Demonstrate an understanding of employment issues.
- Define issues of employment discrimination.
- Identify tools and remedies available to address employment issues.
- Describe the employee’s right to privacy versus the employer’s right to monitor the workplace.
- Identify safety requirements in the workplace and Worker’s Compensation.
