PHL 101 - Introduction to Philosophy

Description
This course is a study of basic philosophical problems, such as: the existence of God, the immortality of the soul, knowledge, the mind-body problem, ethics in society, subjectivism, objectivism and pragmatism, political problems arising from philosophical ideas, and the theory of beauty.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

  1. Develop critical analytical skills in reading, listening, writing, and thinking.
  2. Use learned terms in the discipline of philosophy and apply them to assess ideas.
  3. Present and critique arguments from presented authors and from the student.
  4. Identify the beneficial effects of careful analytical thinking and awareness.
  5. Demonstrate vocabulary and comfort level necessary for classroom discussions.
