CIT 255 - Web Server Administration Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours
Prerequisites: CIT 120 Description This course provides technical information and hands-on lab activities involved with administering a Web Server on the Internet or an intranet. Topics include web server and proxy server overview, internet protocols and ISP connection options, HTTP and FTP protocols, web server planning and operating system platforms, server configuration and publishing documents, server-side programming, network security, web client/server security, CGI security and secure on-line transactions. Learning Outcomes Describe the functions of a Web server.
Describe the role of secured Web servers.
Describe the role of internal DNS and how to configure.
Describe the differences between Microsoft and non-Microsoft Web server platforms.
Explain and list the concepts of IP Addressing.
Demonstrate the subnetting process.
Explain the process of registering a domain name.
Explain the functions of a proxy server.
Identify the purpose of a DMZ.
Explain how security issues pertain to the Web server environment.
Identify the integration of E-mail services in a Web server environment.
