Associate of Science

This program is designed to prepare students for positions in homeland security. Risk management, systems integration, threat dynamics and the legal, political and ethical issues associated with homeland security are explored. The criminal justice system, perspectives on terrorism and continuity of operations are also examined. Graduates of this program may seek employment as homeland security professionals in various occupations including border, airport and seaport security as well as employment in the intelligence field, technology security and disaster or emergency response.

Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will:

1. Explain the broad range of federal policies and procedures enacted since the events of 9/11 and identify the major security problems linked to terrorism.
2. Summarize the organizations involved in homeland security, how they are organized, how they interrelate and their specific roles.
3. Identify management issues of organizations related to mitigation, prevention, planning, preparedness, readiness, response and recovery relating to homeland security events.
4. Identify the various templates, tools and formats to evaluate an operation, prepare a Continuity of Operation Plan and explain risk assessment principles in a real world environment.
