RES 118 - Respiratory Pharmacology

Description
In this course, students study respiratory pharmacology with emphasis on the properties of medications and their effects on the patient. Students explore the mechanism of action for pharmacological agents most frequently used to treat respiratory therapy patients. The competencies a respiratory care practitioner must demonstrate to be safe and effective. This course requires a per credit health career fee; check the tuition and fee schedule for the current rate.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

  1. List the indications of bronchodilator therapy.
  2. Select the necessary medication to achieve bronchodilation.
  3. Describe the function of parasympatholytic and mucokinetic agents as well as corticosteroids on pulmonary function.
  4. Describe the method of action, classification and effects on the autonomic nervous system of commonly administered aerosolized medications.
