Certificate
The Women’s Studies certificate will enhance awareness of women’s issues. Upon completion of this program, graduates may seek to transfer certificate courses to a women’s studies degree program at a college or university. Students should choose electives based on educational/employment requirements and transfer of the course(s) to colleges and universities.
Upon successful completion of the program, the graduate will:
- Identify historical and current social, legal, economic, political and psychological issues in women’s lives, locally and globally.
- Describe women’s contribution to, and participation in, culture, politics, society, economy and religion and how the methodologies and theories of feminism have changed these changed these institutions.
- Connect concepts of power, privilege, oppression and patriarchy within various historical, economic, political and psychological areas.
- Describe how gender (along with class, race, ethnicity, ability, physical and mental challenges and sexual orientation) combine to form identity.
- Discuss forms of institutional discrimination and violence against women.
