PHT 101 - Pharmacology 1 for Pharmacy Technicians

Description
This course introduces students to current concepts in pharmacology. Topics include basic drug actions, indications for drug therapy, toxicity, side effects and safe therapeutic and dosage ranges. Drugs affecting the autonomic and central nervous system, pain relief and cardiac medications are discussed. This course requires a per credit health career fee; Check the tuition and fee schedule for the current rate.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Identify and explain the action of drugs according to therapeutic classification.
- Compare theories of drug action and processes mediating that action.
- Explain drug standards and legislation as applied to classifications of drugs.
- Identify drug dosage ranges.
- Identify drugs by generic and trade name.
- Explain pertinent adverse reactions and side effects of drugs.
- Compare body system actions and reactions to drug therapy.
