BIO 103 - Introduction to Human Biology

This course familiarizes students with the structure and function of the human body. Concentration is on the chemical, cellular and physiological principles on which human life is based. The normal organization and function of the body’s organ systems are covered along with selected disorders. This course does not satisfy a biology requirement for the biology major.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Characterize chemical bonds and chemical components of the human body.
- Describe structure and function of cell components.
- Explain transport mechanisms across the cell membrane.
- Distinguish between the four major tissue types according to their form and function.
- Identify structures, functions and disorders of human organ systems.
- Delineate the role of homeostasis on organ systems.
