AVT 250 - Certified Flight Instructor Airplane Theory

Prerequisites: AVT 211  

 
Description
This course prepares the commercial pilot to meet the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) 141 ground requirements for the Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certification. Students complete a minimum of 40 hours instruction in practice teaching. Course content includes theory review and review of the knowledge necessary to pass the FAA CFI Knowledge Exam, as well as the FAA Fundamentals of Instruction (FOI) Knowledge Exam. Students must successfully pass the FAA CFI and FOI Knowledge Exams in order to complete the course.


Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

  1. Pass the FAA Fundamentals of Instruction Knowledge Exam and the FAA Certified Flight Instructor Airplane Knowledge Exam.
  2. Analyze the theories of learning, teaching and effective communication.
  3. Apply principles of lesson plan and syllabus development.
  4. Compile a portfolio of FAA flight theory and certification maneuvers lesson plans and handouts.
  5. Demonstrate classroom and in-flight teaching techniques.
  6. Utilize evaluation techniques.
  7. Employ the use of FAA regulations.
  8. Demonstrate proper use of FAA documentation.
  9. Employ the use of Aeronautical Decision-Making (ADM), risk management and Crew and Single-Pilot Resource Management (CRM/SRM).
  10. Relate the effects of stress, fatigue, illness and other factors that affect student pilot/instructor fitness to fly.
