BAR 101 - Principles of Barbering 1 Credits: 6 3 Lecture Hours 6 Lab Hours

Description This course provides an understanding of the history and profession of barbering while helping students develop life skills and promote professional image. Students are instilled with an appreciation for one of the world’s oldest professions and maintain the continuation of the historical perspective for future generations of barbers. Emphasis is on professionalism while students identify values and attitudes of goal setting, motivation, self-management and time management. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Describe the history of barbering.
- Explain the importance of life skills in a professional setting.
- Model a professional image.
- Prepare work station according to State standards and best practices.
- Demonstrate proper sanitation, hygiene and safety practices.
- Model effective human relations and communications skills.
