CDL 101 - Introduction to Commercial Driving Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours
Prerequisites: Valid State Driver’s License

Description This course presents material needed for the student to successfully pass the CDL permit and endorsement exams, which include: Safe Driving, Cargo Security, Combination Trailers, Air Brakes, Tankers, Double Trailers and Triple Trailers. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Describe the safety rules involving driving, drinking, drugs and serious traffic violations.
- Explain the importance of the “Air Brake Test.”
- Apply the concept of shifting and double-clutching to an unsynchronized 10-speed transmission.
- Identify the dangers associated with driving tank vehicles and the importance of loading and inspection procedures.
- Contrast the difference between aggressive driving and road rage.
- Develop a list of critical driver responsibilities at the scene of an accident.
- Evaluate when and why to “get out and look” (G.O.A.L.).
- Appraise the importance of rearward amplification in terms of driving double and triple bottom rigs.
