MFT 213 - Materials in Nanotechnology Credits: 3 2 Lecture Hours 2 Lab Hours
Prerequisites: MFT 211 , MFT 212 Co-requisites: MFT 214
Description This course covers hands-on exposure to the producing and positioning of the materials used in nanofabrication. This includes self-assembly, colloidal chemistry, atmosphere, low-pressure and plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition. It covers atomic layer deposition, sputtering, thermal and electron beam evaporation, nebulization and spin-on techniques. The course provides students with experience in deposition, fabrication and self-assembly for a variety of materials. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Apply proper safety and cleanroom behavior in a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) operation.
- Explain the process of CVD.
- Create mixed phase solids with structures that include multiple anions.
- Recognize the effects of thermal annealing.
- Describe process controls for CVD applications.
- Fabricate a dye sensitized photovoltaic cell.
- Identify the peak absorbance wavelengths of photocells based on different silicon crystal structures.
- Evaluate optical and structural properties of nanoparticles.
- Characterize structures using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).
- Describe and apply statistical process control to quantify yields.
