ENG 103 - Technical Communications Credits: 3 3 Lecture Hours
Prerequisites: ENG 101 or ENG 111
Description This is a course in the organization and writing of technical descriptions, processing instructions, articles, reports and proposals. This course applies the principles of composition, rhetoric and research to special fields, such as government, business or industry. This course may substitute for ENG 102 in specified technical programs. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Distinguish between technical and non-technical writing.
- Draft, edit and revise summaries, abstracts, definitions, descriptions, processes, informal technical reports and a formal proposal.
- Employ appropriate formats and visuals to present technical information.
- Participate effectively in project team communication activities, including collaborative writing and group presentations that might be encountered in the workplace.
- Apply basic principles of critical thinking and problem solving to the development of technical documents.
- Identify on-line technical writing resources on the Internet.
