AVT 260 - Certified Flight Instructor Instrument Theory

Prerequisites: AVT 250  

 
Description
This course prepares the commercial pilot to meet the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) 141 ground requirement for the Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFI-I) certification. A minimum of 30 hours of instruction in practice teaching of instrument flight theory and the knowledge necessary to pass the FAA CFI-I Knowledge Examination are required.  Students must pass the FAA CFI-I Knowledge Exam to complete the course.


Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

  1. Pass the FAA Certified Flight Instructor Instrument Knowledge Exam.
  2. Analyze the theories of learning, teaching and effective communication.
  3. Demonstrate the application of Instrument lesson plan and syllabus development.
  4. Compile a portfolio of FAA instrument flight theory and certification maneuvers lesson plans and handouts.
  5. Demonstrate classroom and in-flight teaching techniques.
  6. Utilize evaluation techniques.
  7. Employ the use of FAA Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) regulations.
  8. Demonstrate proper preparation of FAA documentation.
  9. Employ the use of Aeronautical Decision-Making (ADM), risk management and Crew and Single-Pilot Resource Management (CRM/SRM).
  10. Demonstrate the development of situational awareness and vigilance to avoid traffic.
  11. Relate the effects of stress, fatigue, illness and other factors that affect the student pilot/instructor fitness to fly.
