CDL 102 - Range and Road Skills Lab Credits: 6 12 Lab Hours
Prerequisites: Valid State CDL Permit, CDL 101 Co-requisites: CDL 103 , CDL 104 , CDL 105
Description This course introduces students to the rules of the driving range, basic movements of the vehicle and how to properly enter and exit the truck. Students identify and properly operate the various controls of the vehicle and complete a thorough vehicle inspection. Particular focus is given to the airbrake system of a tractor trailer. Students acquire these skills by actually driving a commercial vehicle on public roadways accompanied by an instructor. Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:
- Demonstrate how to properly enter and exit the truck.
- Demonstrate thorough pre-trip, in-route and post-trip inspections before during and after each road trip.
- Describe which defects would require the completion of a Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR).
- Operate the air brake system of a tractor-trailer.
- Operate a Class ‘A’ commercial motor vehicle on roads and highways using safe practices.
- Perform appropriate backing, maneuvering and driving skills.
