CDL 105 - Professional Driver Development

Prerequisites: CDL 101  
Co-requisites: CDL 102 , CDL 103 , CDL 104  

Description
This course familiarizes students with the vocabulary and common terms used in the Transportation industry. Students explore life skills lessons such as time and operating expense management, enhanced driver health/wellness tools and balancing home and work obligations. The need for employee public relations skills as they pertain to the Transportation industry and interactions with law enforcement are emphasized.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

  1. Prepare and interpret cargo documentation, including bills of lading, manifests and other shipping papers. 
  2. Demonstrate appropriate time management practices. 
  3. Calculate operational expenses for various driving scenarios.
  4. Identify tools that can be used to optimize health and wellness of drivers. 
  5. Explain company policy when asked direct questions by interested parties.
  6. Explain criteria to consider when speaking to media, law enforcement and Department of Transportation officials. 
  7. Prepare a resume to obtain employment in commercial driving.
